Reading: Students are learning how to identify literary elements in text and to incorporate the elements into their writing. All of the literary elements are important, but we will focus on the elements of the plot chart, characterization and character traits and the various types of conflict. Students will also participate in activities that focus on reading skills such as: writing and identifying a summary for a short story, inferencing and comparing and contrasting.
Grammar: This semester, we will focus on hrough reading short stories and storybooks, students are also reviewing the 4 kinds of sentences and discussing the importance of using various types of sentences to add "life" to their writing. Students will also use prepositional phrases to make sentences more detailed.
Novel: I
Writing: The first nine weeks the students will begin writing stories and poetry in their Thought Book. They thought book will contain narratives, persuasive, reading responses and poetry.
